Upper School
The Upper School program offers a curriculum designed to uphold the school’s mission and to prepare students for quality colleges and universities by continuing to build on the skills and principles learned in the early and middle grades, developing intellectual curiosity and encouraging students to make learning a lifelong dedication. Westfield graduates traditionally pursue a college education. For this reason, Westfield values rigor in the Upper School curricular experience for all students. In addition to traditional courses in English, math, science, and social studies, all Westfield Upper School students are required to take a minimum of two years of a foreign language. Students may choose from a variety of electives including fine arts, Bible classes, advanced science courses, computer courses, additional foreign language study, and a range of Advanced Placement courses. Christian history is the focus of a one semester Old Testament course at the ninth grade level.
Westfield’s Advanced Placement Program has earned full certification from the College Entrance Examination Board (CEEB) for its delivery of advanced placement curriculum of English Language and Composition, United States history, European history, psychology, statistics, and calculus. All advanced placement teachers have completed the College Board’s certification process in the subject area(s) in which they teach and regularly attend workshops and seminars to remain current. Westfield students do well on AP exams and have been awarded advanced standing by major colleges and universities.
