Scholarships

Westfield is fortunate to have the support of many community clubs and businesses assisting students to attend college. The following scholarships are typically provided each year. Some scholarships require references and essays. Plan to start early on the applications.

American Legion Oratorical Contest

- A prepared oration is required on some aspect of the Constitution of the United States. The assigned topic tests the speaker’s knowledge of the basic principles of the government under the Constitution. Contest is in January

American Society of Military Comptrollers

This $1200 scholarship is awarded to seniors who plan to pursue degrees in financial management. It is based on scholastic achievement, leadership ability, extracurricular activity, career goals, and financial need. Due in March

Best Buy Dollars for Scholars

Applicants are evaluated on their level of volunteer community service over the past four years, work experience, school activities, statement of goals, and recommendations. Due in March

Brannen Ford of Unadilla

Brannen Ford awards scholarships to the Valedictorian and Salutatorian

Burger King Scholars

Senior must work an average of 15 hours per week for 40 weeks per year, participate in community service, and demonstrate financial need. Due in December

Clifton/Whitehead Scholarship

Criteria include an essay listing all honors, career goals, and any special circumstances affecting the need for financial assistance. Recommendations, SAT scores, and transcript must be submitted. Due in May

Credit Union Scholarship

Senior must be a member of the Credit Union. Criteria are based on academic performance, community involvement, and extracurricular activities. Due in April

Exchange Club Scholarship

Senior must have a “B” average and write an essay. Due in May

Federal Managers’ Association

Senior must demonstrate leadership ability, excellent scholastic achievement, and financial need. Due in May

Fire Sprinkler Essay

Senior writes an essay on the importance of fire sprinklers. Due in early September www.georgiafiresprinkler.org

Florence Harrison Westfield Beta Club Scholarship

This scholarship is for a senior who has actively participated and shown leadership in the Senior Beta Club. Due in December

Frank and Betty Gooden Estes Scholarship

Senior must live in Houston County, have financial need, demonstrate high moral and ethical character, earn good scholastic grades, and participate in community work either through church, school, a club or other organization. Essay required. Due in February

Garden Club of Georgia Scholarship

Applicant must have “B” or better average and have financial need. Due in January www.uga.edu/gardenclub

Georgia Cotton Women Scholarship

This scholarship is for a son, daughter, grandson, or granddaughter of an active Georgia cotton producer. Due in May

Georgia Electronic Life Safety & Systems Association

Scholarship for sons and daughters of active-duty police and fire personnel. Due in March

Georgia Farm Bureau

Parents must be members of Farm Bureau and student must pursue a degree in agricultural and environmental sciences, family and consumer sciences or related agribusiness field. Due in December

Golden Eagle Award

Senior must be nominated in a specific area, go through an interview process, and use talents in the school and community. Due in January

Hornets Pride

Determined by donated funds – Criteria are based on courses taken, grades, school activities, personal essay. Due in March

Houston County Bar Association

Based on applicant’s essay on selected topic, letters of recommendation, resume, transcript – Due in April

Houston County Healthcare

Senior must pursue an education in a healthcare-related field such as nursing, pharmacy, medicine or physical/occupational therapy. The senior must have a minimum 3.0 GPA, demonstrated commitment to school and community activities have working or volunteer experience. An essay and recommendation is required. Due in March

J. Steven Walraven Memorial Scholarship

- The senior must be an employee of a bank for at least one year. Awards are based on merit, involvement in the community, and need. Due in April

Julian and Jan Hester Memorial Scholarship

Scholarship is based on an essay on community banking, recommendation, and merit. Due in March

Jim Herrin Memorial Scholarship

Criteria are based on track and field or cross country participation, leadership roles, awards in track, outstanding academic performance. Due in early April

Kiwanis Club Scholarship

- Application includes a paragraph describing why the scholarship is needed, list of extracurricular activities, honors and awards, statement of educational goals, recommendation, and transcript. Due early April

National Merit Scholarship

Determined by PSAT score

Perry Business Women’s Club

Awarded to a female based on recommendations, honors, awards, extracurricular activities, career goals, and short statement of why the applicant deserves the scholarship. Due in early April

Pilot Club Scholarship

Awarded to a female based on awards, extracurricular activities, educational plans, and need for scholarship. Due in March

Mary M. Pope Scholarship

Senior must pursue a degree in education. Eligibility is based on GPA, SAT, community service, extracurricular activities, and financial need. Due in January

Pulaski Farm Bureau

Parents must be members of Pulaski County Farm Bureau. The award is based on honors, activities, community activities, leadership positions, educational plans. Due in March

Robert Byrd Scholarship

Award is based on GPA, SAT score, and essay. Due in January

Robins Federal Credit Union Scholarship

Scholarship is based on GPA, SAT, recommendations, community and extracurricular activities. The senior must have a Credit Union account. Due in March

Robins Officers’ Spouses’ Club

Senior must have at least a 3.0 GPA and be a military dependent. Due in March

Sam Nunn Citizenship Award

Student must have 2.5 GPA, demonstrate good citizenship through community service, and include an essay and recommendation. Due in March

Shorty N. Cogland Memorial Scholarship

These scholarships are available to seniors who are sons or daughter of active-duty police and fire personnel. Due in March

Walmart Scholarship

WFO Fine Arts Scholarship

Senior must have a consistent study in at least one of the fine arts. He/She should have at least four years of professional training and a recommendation from a fine arts teacher. Due in March

Vietnam Veterans of America Scholarship

Scholarship is based on DD-214 form, transcript, SAT/ACT, recommendation, and an essay. Due in February

Seniors should check specific colleges for scholarship opportunities, and with parents or grandparents for scholarships associated with their jobs or affiliations.
