Varsity Softball Wins Ninth State Championship
Westfield Softball Clinches 9th Consecutive State Title
The Westfield Hornets softball team has once again proven their dominance on the diamond, securing their ninth straight state championship during the GIAA State Tournament held October 16th–18th. Under the leadership of Head Coach Ryan Wetherington, who has guided the team through the last four championship seasons, the Hornets showcased their talent, grit, and championship pedigree.
Westfield opened the tournament with commanding wins over Piedmont Academy (10–2) and John Milledge Academy (10–0) on day one. The momentum carried into day two with a 3–0 victory over Terrell Academy, highlighted by a no-hitter pitched by senior Camilla Bloodworth.
In the championship game, Westfield faced John Milledge Academy once again and sealed the title with a 6–1 win. Bloodworth was electric on the mound, recording 13 strikeouts, while Addison Happel delivered a three-run home run that solidified the Hornets’ lead.
Bloodworth’s performance throughout the tournament was nothing short of spectacular, tallying 35 strikeouts over the course of the three-day event while allowing just four hits. The team wrapped up their season with an impressive 19–7 record, continuing a legacy of excellence that has become synonymous with Westfield softball.
Congratulations to Coach Wetherington, the entire Hornets coaching staff, and team on another historic season!
